The Sisters of Napoleon, An Exhibition and Musée Marmottan Monet

August 14th, 2013

New Exhibition in Paris Dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte's Sisters

The Sisters of Napoleon will be the newest addition to the 16th arrondissement's Musée Marmottan Monet. It will offer an unprecedented glimpse into the lives of Elisa, Pauline and Caroline Bonaparte, the royal women of the Napoleonic Empire. Aspects of their public and private lives will be evident in 140 exhibited works.

The exhibition is running for a limited time only: 3rd October 2013 - 26th January 2014.

An Unprecedented Glimpse Into Lives That Shaped an Empire

The sisters played many roles: wife, mother, leader, and through their eyes we can see a new perspective on the construction of the Empire. Paintings, sculptures, jewellery and more have been collected from descendants of the family to create the exhibition. The selection will be impressive and a true testament to Napoleon's sisters.

Pauline (1970-1825) was an imperial French Princess and the first sovereign Duchess of Guastally; she was the only sister to visit Napoleon during his exile. Caroline (1782-1839) was Grand Duchess Consort of Berg and became Queen Consort of Naples and Sicily following her marriage to General Joachim Murat. Elisa (1977-1820) the Princess of Piombino and later, the Grand Duchess of Tuscany was Bonaparte's only sister to possess political influence.

Paris on New Year’s Eve

New Year's Eve is a very special time in Paris where fireworks fill the air, Champagne corks pop and across the city people begin a month of celebration. There are no official fireworks displays in Paris on New Year's Eve, but many people hold celebrations with their own displays which can be seen everywhere. The City of Lights really lives up to its nickname on the 31st and each and every corner of it is covered in the sparkle of celebration.
